Stormwater
Hampton Roads localities are dedicated to protecting the region's waterways by managing both the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff.
HRPDC Responsibilities
- Local Water Quality
- Assist localities with Total Maximum Daily Loads administered by the state
- Develop Implementation Plans
- Stormwater Management
- Facilitate regular meetings of local government staff to provide analysis and share information
- Support localities as they comply with stormwater permits administered by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
- Provide updates on legislative and regulatory activities that may impact local stormwater management programs
- Coordinate and develop regional training opportunities

- Land and Water Quality Protection in Hampton Roads (Phase I) - Impacts of water quality regulations on local governments and tools to evaluate potential changes in local plans and codes
- Land and Water Quality Protection in Hampton Roads (Phase II) - Recommended BMPs for coastal areas, case studies for potential ordinance changes for Norfolk and Suffolk, and using GIS to inform site design
- Land and Water Quality Protection in Hampton Roads (Phase III) - Potential policy and ordinance changes for local governments to consider and how to use GIS to model impacts of the proposed changes

- Regional Environmental Committee (REC) - The Committee meets monthly to discuss coastal planning initiatives, stormwater interests, and other green topics.
